Cologne is a city in which even as early as more than 2.000 years ago, the people of this region liked to live. Starting as a Roman camp, the city developed on the Rhine into a strategically important location. There are a lot of interesting things to offer to anyone who is interested in building and architecture: Cologne Cathedral with its free staircase, the twelve large Romanesque churches, the historical Town Hall, the many mediaeval city gates, the Mediapark or also the newly emerging Rheinauhafen – important edifices are changing the cityscape from Roman times, the Middle Ages and the modern age and form a mosaic with a very special charm.
